Alan Claude Lighthouse Series |
The image of the Maine lighthouse is an emotionally charged image in many of our minds. A symbol of independence, strength, isolation, fear…all feelings that capture our heartstrings and soul when we are fortunate to sail by them on a windward passage, see them off on a distant shore or simply enjoying a picnic under the shadow of these majestic structures. However one takes in the experience it is always unforgettable. What better way to continue to capture the moment and enjoy the image than to own one of Alan Claude’s dramatic and bold interpretations of selected Maine lighthouses from the Alan Claude Lighthouse Print Collection series. |
We have met the award-winning graphic artist Alan Claude along the way and were instantly impressed by his visually wonderfully expressive series of Maine Lighthouses. The Maine Lighthouse Print Collection Series is a dramatic and bold interpretation of Maine lighthouses and their surrounding environments. With colorful contrasting imagery, dimensional light and shadow, these six classic travel posters illustrations bring forward the strength and spirit of each Maine lighthouse. Each print is signed. |
Influenced by American realist painter Edward Hopper and reminiscent of European travel posters of the 1920’s, Alan Claude's challenge was to create an original series with a certain freshness of expression. Throughout the 20th century only a handful of lighthouse travel posters were ever made. "I wanted to reflect in this series the way I felt about lighthouses." Working in various mediums including pen & ink, photography, and digital illustration, the Maine Lighthouse Print Collection Series is a way to honor these national historical treasures.“I look for the inherent drama in things as in the light and shadows that magnify or reduce a feature or shape, ”says Alan Claude. |
Clearly, Alan Claude has created a timeless collection of selected Maine lighthouses that anyone who has a love of Maine lighthouses should add to their collection. These are the first of a series of his Maine Lighthouse Print Collection with many other images still in the creation phase which will be available as time goes on. We are pleased to be able to make the Alan Claude Maine Lighthouse Print Collection available to you. Visit this site again as more Maine lighthouses from Alan Claude’s series will become available as Alan Claude prints them. |
